We were surprised, but delighted, to see that we were listed in the Yorkshire Post today as one of the best three places to stay close to the 'Cinder Track' between Whitby and Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast.
The moors are clad in their purple mantle once more as we reach the peak of the flowering season for the heather. It seems a little earlier this year, and if other plants are any indicator it may not last as long as usual following the hot, dry spell we have had. The extremes of temperature this year - the bitter cold of the 'Beast' and the recent roasting - have played havoc with grouse numbers, so for those with an interest in that it is perhaps not such a glorious twelth today. But if your interests lie in walking, cycling or visiting this area in a more leisurely manner the moors really are at their best right now.
Summer really is upon us now and the first brood of swallows in our barn will soon be leaving the nest. (Not all our guests sleep 'four in a bed'!) We also have a pair of tawny owls nesting in the big old sycamore tree in the garden and had the pleasure of watching one of the pair fly from the hole in broad daylight. Our recent guests have been delighted with the wildlife that is to be seen at Skerry Hall and have enjoyed some of the superb walking country that is literally on our doorstep.
In the short time that Skerry Hall Farm B&B has been open we have had some wonderful interesting guests staying with us from different corners of the world – USA, South Africa, New Zealand and Europe. It has been a pleasure to meet them, to find out more about their homelands, to welcome them to this beautiful part of England and to give them a taste of true British hospitality. We have also met some fascinating British people, all with their own tale to tell. We hope that they have gone home with a good impression of what we here in Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby have to offer with our glorious coast, countryside and picturesque towns and villages. Our latest reviews on TripAdvisor and entries in our visitor’s book suggest that they have!
